Tips  for Getting a Cheap Airfare

The soaring price of jet fuel has raised airfares to unprecedented heights. Here are some helpful tips that might save you some money:

  • Avoid a service fee and book your ticket(s) online.
  • Use an online service such as Travelocity.com to determine the lowest price (as a reference point).  Please remember these booking services charge you a fee for a buying a ticket from them.
  • If you have to make a connecting flight, breaking up your trip into separate roundtrips may help.  Instead of purchasing a single roundtrip ticket between city A and city C, try pricing separate tickets between city A and city B, and city B and city C.  Please note, be sure to tell the agent when you check in at your origination city to check your luggage all the way through to your destination city.  Otherwise, you will have to pickup your luggage and check it in again.
  • Instead of a roundtrip ticket, try pricing your trip as one-way tickets.  Please note, you may be more closely scrutinized by airport security.
  • If available, a government fare may be cheaper than what can be purchased on the open market.
